There are two Library sites at DBS: an undergraduate Library at Aungier Street (2nd floor), and a postgraduate/law library at Dame Street (3rd floor). Please click here to see a map of Library locations...

The Aungier Street library contains texts relevant to all undergraduate courses.  The Dame Street library is the best place to go for postgraduate resources.  Dame Street also contains an extensive undergraduate law collection.

Alumni and external members can access both Library sites throughout the year. Please note that all students and alumni/external members must carry a valid student/alumni/external membership card with them at all times.

All books in the Library are arranged by class number (Dewey classification).  Class numbers are derived from the subject area of the item and so all books on a certain topic should be located in the same area in the Library.  For example, Human Resource Management is classified as 658.3 and so all general items on this topic will be found together at that shelf space.

All the information you need to locate an item in the Library can be found on the Library Catalogue.  When using the catalogue you should take note of the following information:

Location: The library site at which the item is located, e.g. Dame Street

Shelved at: This is the item’s class number, i.e. where it is shelved

Status: This tells you if the book is on loan or available in the Library

A class number that has letters in front of it signifies that this item is not a book. Examples of areas of the Collection with letters preceding the class number are as follows:

There are 2 study rooms in the Aungier Street Library and 2 in the Dame Street Library. These rooms are reserved for collaborative group work only. Each room is bookable for one hour per student. It is possible to book rooms via the Library website by clicking here

The DBS Library online chat service aims to instantly answer queries you may have about library resources, borrowing, information research and any other library related information needs. This service is intended primarily for current students, faculty and staff at Dublin Business School.

The chat reference service is available from 9am - 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. We strive to extend opening hours into the evening and on Saturdays where staffing levels allow this.

Library and research-related questions can be answered. However, if you need more extensive research assistance we may ask you to continue your questions in person at the information desk.

A valid student card is always required when borrowing items. Students at Aungier Street and Dame Street can use one of the self issuing stations to borrow/return/renew Library materials. Items to be returned can also be dropped off in the Returns Box found outside the main door of the Aungier Street and Dame Street libraries.

Undergraduate students are entitled to borrow up to 6 items at a time.  Postgraduate students are entitled to borrow up to 10 items and staff are entitled to 15 items.

Library materials are available for lending periods of two weeks, one week, and three days. All items with shorter lending periods (i.e. everything except two week loans), are labelled on the spine with sticker indicating its particular lending period.

Books borrowed at the Library desk are stamped with the due date on the first page.  A receipt is issued at the Self-Issue Stations detailing the due date of each item borrowed. Please make note of the date stamp or retain your receipt for reference purposes.

You can renew 2-week-loan and 1-week-loan items on your account up to 12 times if no other student has placed a reservation on the item. Renewals are not permitted if the student has overdue items on his/her account or a fine in excess of €5.00 for undergraduates and €6.00 for postgraduates.

There are a number of methods to renew items:

• Online with student number and password (via Library Catalogue)
• By phone with student number
• At the Self-Issue Stations
• At the Library Desk with student card only 
• At the Library Desk with a student card and book

Yes. You can use your reader number and password to manage your Library account online via the Library Catalogue, for example to reserve and renew items and to view your library account. Your reader number is your student number. Your password is the same password you use to login to Moodle and the college PCs.  If you do not know your password, contact the library to have it reset.

Bring the items you wish to borrow/renew/return to the station along with your student card. Follow the instructions on the screen. Library Staff are also happy to demonstrate the Self-Issuing Station to students on request.

The Library at Aungier Street has a collection of DVDs and videos that may be borrowed overnight or viewed in the Library. A Teaching Resource Collection is also available which may also be borrowed by staff or viewed in the Viewing Stations by students. There are 26 PCs at Aungier Street Library and 14 PCs at Dame Street. All computers are connected to the Internet. These computers also have software such as Microsoft Office 2007 (Word, Excel, Access and Power Point), SPSS 18.0 (quantitative research software), QSRNvivo9 (qualitative research software), Sage Accounts  (business accounting management system), TASBooks (business accounting management system) and more. The College also has computer labs in Castle House for students.

To use PCs in DBS, you must log in with your own personal login details.  Your student number is your username and your date of birth in format dd/mm/yyyy.

DBS offer a wireless network throughout its campus buildings, DBS offer a wireless network throughout its campus buildings, The wireless network is called ‘DBS’ and is password protected.  Obviously we are not going to display the password on a public page, but you can find the password on the student intranet or ask a staff member.  The way to connect to the network is as follows:

Depending on the browser you use you will need to either click "connect to this website" or you will need to accept security certificates.

Once you do this you will be directed to Barracuda, the colege's web filtering software

You log on to Barracuda with the same login details that you use to access a college PC.

Each computer is connected to a printer. There are three printers in Aungier Street and one in Dame St Street. Printers in Aungier Street and Dame Street libraries provide high quality colour and/or black and white prints. There are two photocopiers at Aungier Street and two at Dame Street. Photocopiers in Aungier Street and Dame Street libraries provide high quality colour and/or black and white photocopies.

Papercut is the Library’s printing and photocopying management system. You must register credit on your print/photocopy account using your personal log-in on the student PCs. You can buy Papercut tokens for $3.00, €5.00 or €10.00 at the library desk.  Guides for managing your print/photocopy account are available in the Library.

• Black & White – 7c per page

Past assignments are not kept in the Library. A select number of MBA, MBS, Higher Diploma and third year theses/dissertations however are available electronically.  Hard copies of a small number of older dissertations are available in the library.

Exam papers are available electronically on Moodle. Print copies of past exam papers are available for reference at each information point at each Library site. These may be photocopied in the photocopy rooms.

• Freemind mind-mapping tool, which could be useful for those with learning difficulties such as dyslexia as well as those who like to visualize their thoughts
• Virtual Magnifier  a screen magnification tool designed for the visually impaired and others who need to magnify part of the screen.
• Read Please  all purpose text-to-speech software that reads out loud any text you can see on screen.
• Web Anyware, allows you to have webpages read to you.
• Library catalogue (Heritage) allows you to adjust the font size
• Dawsonera eBook collection has an audio functionality using the Adobe Reader 'Read Out Loud' function.
• Ebsco databases now offer magnification and speech to text facilities.

There are two points of entry to the Library’s eBook collection.
