Accessing Online Resources

The library subscribes to a number of electronic resources (databases), which are available on-campus and off-campus. These resources can be accessed off-campus in two ways.

OpenAthens is an access management system that provides simple and seamless access to the library's electronic resources through one username and password. Contact the library for more details

EBSCOHost Integrated Search (EHIS) allows the searching of multiple resources at one time. You can search all our resources, search across a specific discipline, or select your own list of resources to search. Currently you login to EHIS off-campus with your student number and date of birth

E-Books
Electronic books (E-books) are becoming increasingly popular and have a number of advantages over their print counterparts, such as:
- They can be accessed anywhere, anytime
- They can be accessed concurrently by multiple readers
- They can also be accessed by handheld devices such as Iphones
- They can be read by screen readers
Compare that with a single copy of a textbook sitting on the library shelf. There are a number of different E-book vendors, but DBS Library has chosen Dawsonera as their E-Book supplier. Currently we have over 750 titles available as E-Books and more are being added all the time. Since the Library launched its e-book platform; it purchases all reading list material in electronic format where available. Dawsonera is available on-campus, without the need for a login from this link.

To access E-books off-campus or to avail of personalised features on-campus, such as print, copy, notes, add to favourites, etc, login here with your student number as your username and your date of birth (in the format dd/mm/yyyy – i.e.) as your password.

E-book accounts are created automatically for all new students but if you have difficulties logging in, please contact the Library.You can either view a title online or download it. If you choose to download, access to the title is time limited. If you choose to view the book online, copyright legislation restricts you to printing or copying no more than 5% of a title.
E-Journals

The A-Z journal software provides an alphabetical list of all journals held by DBS Library, either in electronic or print format including their coverage dates. Where journals are available electronically, a link is provided to the relevant database or website. Library location details are also provided for print journals. Off-campus access to a journal requires you to login with your student number and date of birth (dd/mm/yyyy).

A multi-disciplinary full-text database, with more than 5,990 full-text periodicals, including more than 5,030 peer-reviewed journals. The database contains journal articles from the sciences, humanities, social sciences, education, language and literature. A to Z electronic journal list

A to Z listing of DBS Library’s full print and electronic journal holdings.
Business Source Complete

Provides indexing and abstracts for the most important scholarly business journals back as far as 1886. In addition, searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,200 journals. The database also contains country economic reports as well as detailed company profiles for the world's 5,000 largest companies. Computer and Applied Sciences Complete

Computer and Applied Sciences Complete (CASC) provides indexing and abstracting for over 1,300 academic journals professional publications and other sources from a diverse collection. Subject areas include the many engineering disciplines, computer theory and systems, new technologies and the social and professional context of IT. Dawsonera

E-Books are now available through DBS Library, to avail of this service students will need to obtain an individual username and password. Most students' ebook accounts have already been created. Please read this for an understanding of usernames and passwords. If you cannot login contact the library to have an account set up. Please quote your student number in the e-mail.

EBSCOHost Electronic Journal Service

Emerald

A collection of over 42,000 articles from over 100 of the most prestigious management journals, complete with full text archives dating back to 1994 and abstracts back to 1989. Click here for on-campus access. Use the search page for off-campus access
Encyclopaedia Britannica

Offers over 120,000 articles; an updated world atlas; thousands of images and videos; an online dictionary and thesaurus; over 300,000 articles from respected magazines and journals; news headlines; a guide to the Web's best sites — and much more. Film and Television Literature Index

A comprehensive bibliographic and full-text database covering the entire spectrum of television and film. The database provides cover-to-cover indexing and abstracts for more than 300 publications as well as full text for more than 90 journals and 60 books. FT.Com - Financial times

GreenFile

EBSCO's GreenFile is a multidisciplinary database providing access to research and publications examining the human impact on the environment. Coverage includes: climate change, pollution, sustainable energy and agriculture, green building and recycling. Full text access is available for over 4,700 records. Hospitality & Tourism Complete

Hospitality & Tourism Complete covers scholarly research and industry news relating to all areas of hospitality and tourism. This collection contains more than 749,000 records, with coverage dating as far back as 1965. There is full text for 440 publications, including periodicals, company and country reports and books. JSTOR

JSTOR is an online full-text academic journal archive, particularly strong in the arts, humanities and law. Click here for on-campus access. Use the search page for off-campus access
Justis

Now incorporating Firstlaw, Justis is a full text online legal library of Irish case law. Justis is available on-campus only from this link. Off-campus, use the search page or login with your Athens account.
Lexis Nexis Professional

Lexis Nexis Professional is an online database that provides full text access to UK, US, and international case law and legislation http://www.lexisnexis.com/uk/legal. Library, Information Science and Technology Abstracts with Full-Text

LISTA indexes more than 500 core journals, more than 50 priority journals, and 125 selective journals; plus books, research reports and proceedings. This database also contains full text for more than 240 journals. Subject coverage includes librarianship, classification, cataloging, bibliometrics, online information retrieval, information management and more. Marketline

A comprehensive and unique collection of company, country industry, product, and financial information, research and data extending across every major marketplace and industry. Marketline boasts information on 50000+ companies, 215 countries, 2000+ industries, live news feeds and 500 new comment and news articles every week. Mintel

Mintel Reports publishes online reports containing consumer research and analysis; market drivers, size, structure, segmentation and market forces within an Irish context. On-campus, Mintel can be accessed from this link. To access Mintel off-cmapus, an Open Athens account is needed
PEP Archive

PsycARTICLES

PsycARTICLES covers general psychology and specialised, basic, applied, clinical and theoretical research in psychology. The database contains more than 25,000 searchable full text articles from 38 journals published by the American Psychological Association and 4 from allied organizations. It contains all journal articles, letters to the editor and errata from each of the 42 journals. PsycINFO

PsycINFO is a bibliographic database that provides abstracts and citations to the scholarly literature in the behavioral sciences and mental health. The database includes material of relevance to psychologists and professionals in related fields such as psychiatry, management, business, education, social science, neuroscience, law, medicine, and social work. SocINDEX

SocINDEX features more than 2,066,400 records with subject headings from a 19,750+ term sociological thesaurus designed by subject experts and expert lexicographers. SocINDEX with Full Text contains full text for 777 journals dating back to 1908. This database also includes full text for more than 820 books and monographs, and full text for 13,947 conference papers. Regional Business News

This database provides comprehensive full text coverage for US regional business publications. Regional Business News incorporates coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States. This database is updated bi-weekly. WARC

The World Advertising Resource Centre is a leading source of information relating to global marketing, media, advertising and consumer research. The database provides access to periodical articles, case studies, statistics and reports. Login to Moodle to access Warc off-campus or click here for on-campus access.
Westlaw.ie

A legal database offering specialist law reports and digests. It also provides a current awareness service detailing the latest developments in case law and Irish legislation. Login to Moodle for both on- and off-campus access or login with your Athens account

Alcohol Studies Database

Containscitations of over 55,000 documents indexed by the Rutgers University Center of Alcohol Studies since 1987. The database focuses on scholarly and professional materials on beverage alcohol, its use, and related consequences. A small amount of educational and prevention materials and information on other drugs are also included. [Link]
Cogprints

An eprint archive of any sciences relevant to cognition, including Psychology, Neuroscience, Linguistics, many areas of Computer Science, Philosophy and Biology. The archive can be searched by author, title or keyword. [Link]
Directory of Open Access Journals

A directory of open access (i.e. freely available to all) scientific and scholarly journals, which aims to "increase the visibility and ease of use of open access scientific and scholarly journals thereby promoting their increased usage and impact." The titles available on DOAJ are searchable in the A to Z journal list. [Link]
Education Resources Information Center (ERIC)

The Education Resources Information Center is an online digital library of education research and information sponsored by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) of the U.S. Department of Education. [Link]
Intute

A free online portal to all the best online educational resources. Intute is comprised of Science & technology, Arts & Humanities, Social sciences and Health & Life Sciences Portals. Intute titles are searchable via the A to Z journal list. [Link]
Labordoc

Labordoc is the International Labour Office (ILO) Library's catalogue of its collection of books, reports, journals, and documents. It also includes over 350,000 references to journal articles, documents, online publications and hard-to-find material from countries around the world, giving worldwide coverage of labour, employment and related social and economic development issues. Project Gutenberg

Project Gutenberg is the largest single collection of free electronic books, with over 27,000 books available in its online catalogue and may be useful for subjects not so well-covered by Dawsonera. [Link]
PubMed

A search engine for accessing the MEDLINE database of citations and abstracts (and increasingly full-text) of biomedical research articles. The core subjects are medicine, related health disciplines and biomedical sciences. PubMed titles are searchable in the A to Z Journal list. [Link]
pSearch

A customised search engine dedicated to philosophy-related web pages, searching only those web sites with online academic philosophy papers and authoritative reference sites. [Link]

Connotea provides a free online space for you to store, share and manage all your sources into a range of academic referencing styles.[Link]
Mendeley

A free and stand alone reference management application for creating bibliographies [Link]
Zotero

Strongly recommended by the library, Zotero is a free add-on for the Firefox browser (a stand alone version is coming soon), which allows you to save, import, export, store and categorize all your references in your preferred referencing style. [Link]

As part of the Library’s commitment to making resources as widely available as possible, we have recently started to digitise dissertations which obtained a mark of 2.1 and above which have been submitted by DBS students as part of their coursework.
